Pregnancies...

or rather, our Breeding Programme! We have started breeding from our beautiful mares, all three ( includes Gypsy) were away at stud this spring but Gypsy was confused and for various reasons didnt come into season.....that is, until she returned, at which point she decided to let our (gelded ex stallion) Charlie have several attempts (and by that I mean the real thing all bar the pregnancy) at mating in the front field for all to see...am pleased there were no accidents on the A595 as it was an impressive sight, but no offspring! We'll try again next year!

Emma and Rosie are both in foal, Emma to a Colessie stallion, Rosie to one of the Dillars stallions. Both are very well, so we await with baited breath the potential for two young pure Clydesdales to be prancing around next spring...much can yet go wrong but both mares were well checked out, scanned etc so fingers crossed.

Also Benny has, in his ripe old age, managed to sire a litter of pups! He is the proud dad of seven, has taken no parental responsibility as was to be expected and we await the arrival of one of them here shortly...MAYHEM!!! The mother is absolutely gorgeous (as is he, naturally!) so we are excited. This will add to the already doggy atmosphere around the place. Also on this note if anyone comes to the farm with a dog PLEASE keep it on a lead as we dont want any dog hurt...horses are large animals and ours have particularly large feet...we would hate to feel responsible for your best canine friend being squashed....

The other week Alan took pity on some battery hens, so, yes, we now have twelve chickens clucking and crooning around the place. They are still a little bald in places as the reason he rescued them was that they were being pecked to death, but they have settled in and are laying well...fresh eggs YUM chicken poo...NOT!! We'll all end up with a high cholesteral level or somesuch, but in the meantime we are enjoying our omelettes!!

The only other new thing? Eddie Van Halen...thanks Kevin for your gorgeous boy, he has settled in well, is in the field with Charlie Prince Rosie and Co and is totally relaxed we think he'll be a great asset to the ridden Shire movement!
